CNN/Living: How to avoid dating an abusive creep

I read this article and it is full of important things women or men should see as warning signs. Yes, men can be abused by women or their same sex partner. However, I found it interesting that the writer called her abuse "domestic violence" when, in fact, it was just violence. She was a teenager when it happened. It is only domestic violence if you are living with the person; you don't have to be married, you don't have to have children, but you are sharing the same address. The difference is about how to obtain an order of protection. Judge Judy was on Larry King Live on Monday, March 16, and explained that, in the case of Rihanna and Chris Brown, they are not living together so it is simply violence, not domestic violence; violence is a threat to society as a whole.

In the state of California, the orders of protection can be a restraining order, a civil harassment order, an elder or dependent adult abuse restraining order, or a workplace violence restraining order. Read more about the protective orders on the U.S. Department of Justice's site.
